This week...

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B: "Praise the Lord who heals the broken-hearted."

  • The Catholic Church in the Shoalhaven 1863 - 2013.  The Australian Catholic Directory tells us that the Parochial district of the Shoalhaven (now the Parish of Nowra) was establishds in 1863.  This means that 2013 will mark our 150th anniversary-Sesquicentenary, which is a very significant period in Australian Church hsitory.  The celebration of such an occasion would have a number of aspects: ie. Liturgical, historical, and social.  A meeting will be held at the Parish Centre on Wednesday 15 February at 7.00pm to discuss how we might approach celebrating such an occasion.  All interested parishioners are very welcome.
  • Our sincere congratulations and best wishes to Jack and Nancye O'Gorman (Berry) on the (60th) Diamond Wedding Anniversary; and to Joseph and Alfia Savoca (Nowra) on their Golden Wedding Annivesary.  We pray that the Lord will abundantly bless both couples on such significant anniversaries; and thank you for your faithfull support of the parish ovetrthe years.

Extract only) A number of the Catholic Bishops of NSW have issued a statement to help people of faith recognise that there are some specific Greens’ policies that give rise to grave concern in the areas of religious freedom, school funding, marriage, drug use, abortion and euthanasia.

Please bear in mind: It’s not the role of the bishops or the Church to tell people how to vote.  Everyone needs to make up their own mind.

    ·           It is the responsibility of bishops to alert people to issues where there are serious concerns for the protection of human rights and human dignity. e.g major policies on euthanasia, abortion, marriage, non-government schools and religious freedom. Such issues need to be examined carefully.

    ·         None of us has a monopoly on virtue – nor does any political party.  We need to look at the three major parties and the individual candidates.

    ·         The Greens promote important issues such as the environment; however, other Those elected on 26 March should be concerned for the rights of every person in the State, rich or poor, young or old, the dying or the unborn.
